Our Osprey Photography Workshops take place at a private hide near Rutland Water during the breeding season, when the Osprey chicks require constant feeding.

At our hide we have toilet facilities onsite and an Osprey spotter who communicates with me in the hide via walkie talkie to highlight the birds approaching.

This session starts at 4.30 PM and runs to around 8.30 PM (minimum session is 4 hours) and as well as Ospreys onsite we also have fishing Red Kites,Kingfishers,Kestrel,Herons and even a resident Muntjac Deer.

I am on hand to give you advice on bird behaviour, camera settings and technique to capture the best shots including the Osprey exiting the water with a fish and talons out just prior to entering the water and when we enter the hide I take you through a little iPad slide show to demonstrate this.

The shots tend to be taken around 300mm on a full frame cameras, so a lens in the range 70-300mm,100mm-400mm,150-500mm,150-600mm etc or a 300mm prime lens would be best.

Our resident Osprey tends to dive from an tree but we have a number of Ospreys fishing at the site with at least 8 different Ospreys fishing with us last year, the action can be exhilarating with a birds sometimes diving just 3-4 meters in front of the hide.

When you book joining instructions are sent which include details on timings, camera settings and local hotels if you wish to stay in the area.
